In addition to its positive impact on physical and mental health, tourism is considered a fundamental need and a vital life experience for all members of society. However, this social right has often been overlooked among individuals with disabilities, particularly groups such as those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Due to their unique characteristics—including sensory sensitivities, anxiety in unfamiliar environments, communication difficulties, and challenges in social interactions—autistic adolescents have fewer opportunities to participate in tourism activities. Therefore, it is essential to find solutions that provide conditions for a safe, controlled, and adaptive tourism experience tailored to their needs. This research attempts to utilize Virtual Reality (VR) as a modern and interactive tool to provide an approach for reducing the sensory and social challenges faced by adolescents with ASD in the field of tourism. The research method is descriptive-analytical, and data were gathered using the standard questionnaire by Omer et al. (2021). A total of 267 valid questionnaires were collected, and the resulting data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and the Partial Least Squares (PLS)method. Descriptive analyses were performed using SPSS 26 software, while hypothesis testing was conducted via Smart PLS3. The results indicated that Virtual Reality has a positive and significant impact on enhancing social interactions by improving the ability to maintain social distancing among autistic adolescents (specifically within the context of domestic tourism in Tehran). This finding suggests that Virtual Reality can serve as a safe platform and a prerequisite for real-world tourism experiences, smoothing the path for the social participation of this group.
